Vietnamese runners win golds in Taiwan Open

VGP – Viet Nam won two more golds at the Taiwan Athletics Open which closed on June 2 in Chinese Taipei.

The women’s 4x400m relay team of Viet Nam wins and sets new record at the Taiwan Athletics Open.

The first gold went to Nguyen Trung Cuong in the men's 5,000m event. The SEA Games champion was among the leading group runners in almost of the time. He just made strong sprint in the last 300m to leave all rivals behind to cross the finish line in a time of 14min 18.03sec.

Roni Syianturi of Indonesia and Sonny Wagdos of the Philippines came second and third, respectively.

It was Cuong's second victory in this tournament after gold in the 3,000m steeplechase on June 1.

The second gold of Viet Nam in the day went to the women's 4x400m team.

The Asian relay champions dominated the race from the beginning. They stormed to the finish line, clocking 3:31.88 which was the tournament's new record.

Chinese youth team came second, followed by team of Asia Biomedical Technology.

Ealier, runner Nguyen Thi Thu Ha took bronze in the women's 800m event.

After two days of competitions, Viet Nam bagged four golds and one bronze to place No 4, standing below Japan, South Korea and Thailand in the medal tally./.
