Vietnamese, Malaysian Prime Ministers discuss bilateral ties, regional situation over phone

Pham said he was glad to talk with Anwar again shortly after their face-to-face meeting on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in South Africa last November, adding that frequent phone conversations between the two Prime Ministers have helped both sides to coordinate and share information over the issues of shared concern, reflecting the increasing high political trust between the two countries in general and between the sides' senior leaders in particular.

The two Prime Ministers expressed their pleasure at the positive development of the Viet Nam-Malaysia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership over the past time. They agreed to soon adopt an action program to implement the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for the 2026-2030 period, which will figure out specific orientations for each cooperation pillars and soon achieve the trade goal of US$20 billion in a more balanced manner.

Prime Minister Pham suggested both sides enhance rice trade and maritime cooperation, jointly work together to combat illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing, and boost collaboration between the Viet Nam's National Industry-Energy Group (Petrovietnam) and Malaysia's Petronas.

Comparing notes on regional and international landscape, the two Prime Ministers expressed their deep concern over recent tensions between Cambodia and Thailand, calling for restraint, peaceful dialogue, and avoidance of force.

The two Prime Ministers agreed to coordinate closely with other ASEAN Member States in consolidating solidarity, maintaining ASEAN centrality, and utilizing ASEAN-led mechanisms to promote dialogue, thus contributing to peace, stability and cooperation in the region./.
