Do Thi Anh Nguyet and Le Quoc Phong were the first competitors of Viet Nam taking part in the Olympics.
In the ranking round, archers shot 72 arrows at a target 70m away, divided into 12 ends (series) of six arrows each, taking about two hours to complete.
Each athlete had two minutes to shoot six arrows in each end. The scores, which can reach a maximum of 720 points, were then totalled, and archers were ranked from No 1 to No 64 based on their scores.
Their scores didn't count for medals, but establish seeding for the knockout competition that starts on July 30.
In the women's event, Nguyet made 648 points with perfect 21 10 points after 72 arrows to place No 37. The result was 20 points higher than what she did in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.
She will face Fallah Mobina of Iran who ranked No 28 in the next knock-out round.
In the men's event, Phong scored 652 points for a 47th position in his first time at the world largest sport arena.
He will play Dan Olaru from Moldova, who placed No 18, in the next round.
In addition to individual rankings, the individual ranking round established the 16 pairs that qualify for the mixed team event. For countries with both male and female archers, the highest men's score and the highest women's score were be combined to determine the top 16 seeds.
The combined points of Nguyet and Phong made them sit No 24 among 27 pairs. They failed to secure a place in the medal-winning phrase.
The 33rd Olympic Games will be officially kicked off on July 26. For the first time in Olympic history, the opening ceremony will not be conducted inside a stadium. The traditional Parade of Nations will take place along the river Seine, which flows through the heart of the historic French capital.
