The national flag carrier Viet Nam Airlines won the titles of Asia's Leading Airline-Economy Class and Asia's Leading Airline Brand while Vietravel Airlines was accredited as Asia's Leading New Airline.

Meanwhile, the Ville De Mont Mountain Resort in the northern mountainous province of Lao Cai's Sa Pa town and Premier Village Ha Long Bay Resort in the northern coastal province of Quang Ninh were awarded as Asia's Leading Lifestyle Resort and Asia's Leading Family Villa Resort 2022, respectively.

This year, Viet Nam received a series of nominations for different categories such as the Leading Sustainable Tourism Destination, Leading Heritage Destination, Leading Cultural Destination, Leading Nature Destination, Leading Youth Travel Destination and Leading Beach Destination.

Addressing the event, Graham Cooke, Founder of the World Travel Awards (WTA), stated that Ho Chi Minh City is an impressive cosmopolitan destination, rich in history and culture but with a dynamic, forward-thinking outlook.

Viet Nam is a tremendously exciting destination within Asia, he said, expressing his belief that the nation will soon become a tourism epicentre on the global stage.

"We foresee an era of unprecedented growth as more brands and tourism development products are attracted to the nation", he emphasized.

WTA was established in 1993 to acknowledge, reward and celebrate excellence across all sectors of the tourism industry.

Each year, WTA covers the globe with a series of regional gala ceremonies staged to recognize and celebrate individual and collective success within each key geographical region.

Viet Nam welcomed more than 1.44 million international arrivals in the first eight months of 2022, a 13.7-fold rise from a year earlier, thanks to the reopening of borders to foreign tourists and the resumption of international air routes, data showed.

Of the international arrivals, 88.2 percent came to Viet Nam by air, up 18.5 times, while 11.8 percent by road and 0.03 percent by sea.
