Nguyen made the above statement during his talks with Commanding General of the U.S. Army Pacific (USARPAC) General Charles Flynn in Ha Noi on November 13.
Nguyen welcomed Flynn's visit to Viet Nam which took place on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of Viet Nam-U.S. comprehensive partnership.
The bilateral relationship was recently upgraded to a comprehensive strategic partnership for peace, cooperation and sustainable development, which paves the ways for both sides to promote defense cooperation, contributing to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world, he noted.
Viet Nam expects to promote its relations with the U.S. on the basis of the respect for each other's independence, sovereignty and political institutions, for the interest of both countries and for peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world, underlined the official.
The defense cooperation has gained positive outcomes, especially in the settlement of war consequences, United Nations peacekeeping operations, personnel training and military healthcare, and cooperation between armed services, he said, hailing the USARPAC's role in carrying out bilateral cooperation activities.
He suggested both sides should continue effectively realizing signed documents and agreements, with priority given to promoting cooperation in UN peacekeeping operations, improving the effectiveness and quality of training cooperation and deepening medical healthcare collaboration.
The host recommended the U.S. give priority to stepping up collaboration with Viet Nam in addressing the war consequences, including dioxin detoxification.
Viet Nam pledges to create favorable conditions for the most effective search for American servicemen missing in action, the officer said.
Flynn, for his part, underlined the importance of Viet Nam-U.S. defense ties, especially cooperation with USARPAC, pledging to do his utmost to bolster the collaboration and achieve the set common targets./.
