The forum, initiated by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh at the 43rd ASEAN Summit in September last year, aims to create a platform for stakesholders within and beyond ASEAN to share ideas and initiatives to forge a shared vision for ASEAN 2045.

It will also help foster regional voice and contribution of ASEAN to the upcoming UN Summit of the Future scheduled to take place in September this year.

ASEAN was established in Bangkok with five founding members: Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand.

Brunei joined ASEAN on 7 January 1984, followed by Viet Nam on 28 July 1995, Lao PDR and Myanmar on 23 July 1997, and Cambodia on 30 April 1999, making up what is today the ten Member States of ASEAN.

ASEAN has a combined GDP of approximately US$3.7 trillion with a population of over 670 million people, making it the third-largest economy in Asia and the fifth-largest in the world.

The bloc is projected to be the fourth-largest economy in the world by 2030, just behind the U.S., China, and India.

About 60 percent of ASEAN's total population is currently under the age of 35. Half of the population will join the middle class by 2030, according to an economic integration brief released by ASEAN in July last year./.
