Viet Nam to export home-grown vaccine against African swine fever to Philippines, Indonesia

The Vietnamese ASF vaccine producers are working with local authorities to deploy vaccination campaigns for pig herds, he said, adding that households, farms, and businesses have been using the ASF vaccines for their pigs.

The export of the made-in-Viet Nam ASF vaccines to many countries with good feedbacks is expected to help Viet Nam expand its export markets for this product.

The administration of 600,000 doses of ASF vaccines on pigs in over 40 provinces and cities nationwide under the supervision of the Department of Animal Health showed high efficacy of 95 percent, the MARD has approved the use of the vaccines on a larger scale in many localities.

In response to orders from some countries, Viet Nam has provided support for and sent experts to those countries to collaborate in organizing vaccination campaigns.

The NAVET-ASFVAC vaccine, produced by NAVETCO Central Veterinary Medicine Joint Stock Company, has been administered to pigs in the Dominican Republic, yielding positive results. 

Viet Nam has become the first country to successfully develop and produce two vaccines against ASF, a disease that first appeared in Africa in 1921 with a mortality rate of up to 100 percent. 

Previously, the Philippines imported 300,000 doses of the vaccine./.
