Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien emphasized the point during a meeting with Mr Manuel Pauser, Vice President of FESI and Vice President of Government Affairs and Global Community of Adidas, in Brussels, Belgium on December 14 .

Viet Nam fully supports the investment and development of the Federation of the European Sporting goods Industry (FESI) in Viet Nam for the leather, footwear and sportswear industries. This is an industry with excellent export strength.

The minister hoped that the two sides would continue to promote cooperation in the coming time to improve the efficiency of EVFTA implementation in this field, contributing to advancing economic development and creating jobs and other social security benefits for both sides.

Additionally, Nguyen also hoped that FESI would strengthen exchanges and cooperation with Viet Nam in the field of human resource training for the textile, garment and footwear industries to improve professional capacity and master advanced technologies worldwide.

FESI has regularly advised Viet Nam in developing policies and laws and coordinated with the Vietnamese side to promote communication and promotion activities in the European market.

For his part, Mr Manuel Pauser thanked the Vietnamese government for the valuable support for FESI to reopen production during the COVID-19 epidemic. This gave European investors confidence in Viet Nam's safety and her commitment to solving complex problems.

Mr Manuel Pauser said that the diligent and creative Vietnamese workers, and the textile and footwear industry, mainly employing female workers, helped attract FESI's European investors.

The EU is the second largest export market of Viet Nam's leather and footwear industry, with an export turnover of US$4.5 billion in 2021, accounting for 25.1 percent of the industry's export turnover.

By the end of the first ten months of 2022, export turnover to this market reached US$5.6 billion, up 40.1 percent over the same period in 2021.
