Viet Nam reports first Omicron case

VGP – The Ministry of Health has reported the first Omicron case in a person who recently returned from the UK.

Right after landing in Ha Noi on December 19, the passenger test positive for SARS-CoV-2 and was admitted to the 108 Military Central Hospital.

The hospital conducted genome sequencing of the patient samples on December 20 and 21 using Oxford Nanopore technology (ONT) and the outcomes showed that the person contracted Omicron variant.

The ministry encouraged citizens to strictly follow preventive measures and get vaccinated against COVID-19.

As of December 27, Viet Nam confirmed 1,666,545 COVID-19 cases, including 1,259,614 and 31,418 recoveries./.
