Viet Nam expects to beef up labor and energy cooperation with Qatar

During the reception for Qatari Minister of Labour Ali bin Saeed bin Samikh Al Marri, Prime Minister Pham proposed that the two countries continue to effectively enhance labor cooperation, promote negotiations on a labor agreement.

He promised to send the Minister of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs to Qatar for further discussions.

Pham suggested the Qatari minister support the construction of training centers for Vietnamese workers before they go to work in Qatar. This will play an important role in improving the skills, qualifications, and cultural and legal understanding of workers.

In reply, Minister Ali bin Saeed bin Samikh Al Marri said that there remains considerable potential to be tapped as the number of Vietnamese guest workers in Qatar remains modest, with nearly 1,000 persons.

The minister stressed that Qatar has strong demand for foreign workers. The country also wishes to promote labor cooperation with Viet Nam, which boasts a population of 100 million, and an abundant, young, and skilled workforce

According to the minister, over the next seven to eight years, Qatar will need a substantial number of workers for sectors such as hospitality, healthcare, education, and transportation.

The Qatari minister applauded the Prime Minister's suggestion on establishing workforce training centers in Viet Nam. He suggested the two sides work with the International Labor Organization (ILO) to materialize the initiative.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh hoped that Qatar would assist Viet Nam in the energy sector and maintain regular supply of crude oil and gas, especially liquefied natural gas (LNG) to ensure electricity supply while receiving the Minister of Energy Affairs of Qatar.

Specifically, Prime Minister Pham suggested the two countries negotiate an agreement on energy cooperation and explore offshore wind power, solar energy, and hydrogen projects.

In reply, Saad bin Sherida Al Kaabi who is the CEO of Qatar Energy - a state-owned oil and gas corporation in Qatar and one of the world's leading LNG producers voiced his support for negotiations and signing of a cooperation document with Viet Nam regarding energy and gas.

The CEO recommended the two sides discuss an agreement on production and supply of urea - a product processed from oil and gas.

Qatar Energy said Saad bin Sherida Al Kaabi stands ready to serve as a bridge between Qatari enterprises with Vietnamese partners in new energy projects./.
