Viet Nam pursues consistent policy of protecting and promoting human rights

The Spokesperson made the above statement yesterday in Ha Noi at the ministry's regular press briefing.

She said that the annual human rights report released by the U.S. State Department on April 22 made some subjective assessments based on inaccurate information about the actual situation in Viet Nam.

In spite of reflecting Viet Nam's achievements and progress in human rights protection, the report made some biased comments based on false information about the real situation in the country.

The basic rights and freedoms of individuals are stipulated in Viet Nam's Constitution and are protected and promoted by specific legal documents and implemented in practice.

Viet Nam stands ready to participate in frank and constructive exchanges with the U.S. in a bid to resolve remaining differences to increase understanding and make positive contributions to the comprehensive strategic partnership between Viet Nam and the U.S.

Viet Nam has made remarkable strides forward in poverty reduction over the last decade. The country has also made a strong impression by attaining average growth of 1.36 percent in its Human Development Index (HDI) during the past 30 years, putting it among the top countries in the world.

Viet Nam is widely recognized as a global success story in its endeavors to eliminate hunger, alleviate poverty, and promote equality and social advancement. It was one of the initial 30 countries worldwide and the first in Asia to implement a multidimensional poverty standard, ensuring that people have access to basic social services and a minimum standard of living.

Viet Nam has always given priority to vulnerable groups, including women, children, the poor, the elderly, people with disabilities, ethnic minorities, and those affected by HIV/AIDS in implementing Party guidelines, state policies, and laws. The country has also made continual progress in reducing gender inequality.

Viet Nam has also made active contributions to promoting human rights globally. The country is currently a member of seven out of nine significant international conventions on human rights./.
