The 5th RCEP Summit on October 27 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Speaking at the 5th RCEP Summit on October 27 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the Prime Minister said the gathering reflects the strong determination of RCEP members to strengthen regional integration and enhance the collective capacity to tackle emerging global challenges.

He stressed the vital role of RCEP in stimulating economic development across the Asia-Pacific region, noting its clear contributions to trade, investment flows, and the improvement of regional supply chains. The agreement, he said, serves as a solid platform for sustainable growth and enhanced competitiveness among participating economies.

Prime Minister Pham reiterated that Viet Nam places high priority on the RCEP, regarding it as an important mechanism that helps economies at varying development levels share benefits, reinforce self-reliance, and progress toward shared prosperity.

He also reaffirmed Viet Nam's strong support for the multilateral trading system, recognizing the World Trade Organization (WTO) as the backbone of a fair, transparent, and mutually beneficial global trade order. Viet Nam, he noted, stands ready to actively contribute to ongoing WTO reform efforts.

The summit wrapped up with the adoption of the Leaders' Joint Statement on RCEP, which reasserted support for ASEAN centrality and commitment to advancing an open, inclusive, mutually beneficial, and forward-looking regional economic integration agenda.

The joint statement further highlighted members' firm commitment to the multilateral trading system with the WTO at its core—upholding openness, transparency, fairness, and rules-based predictability, while ensuring non-discrimination in trade relations.

It also emphasized RCEP's crucial role in accelerating regional economic integration, boosting resilience, and fostering sustainable growth amid increasing global economic uncertainty and volatility.

The RCEP is a free trade agreement among the Asia-Pacific countries of Australia, Brunei, Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Viet Nam./.
