Viet Nam leaps up global Internet speed index despite cable breaks

VGP - Viet Nam jumped six notches forward to rank 39th in the Speedtest Global Index, according to Ookla, the owner and operator of Speedtest.net.

Particularly, Viet Nam ranked 52nd in the world for mobile speeds and 39th for fixed broadband speeds during February 2023 when five undersea cables connecting the country to the world were broken in one way or another.

International internet connections across Viet Nam were "more or less" affected, especially during rush hours, and for those whose online activities require high internet bandwidths (online gaming, video streaming, etc.).

Service providers said they were working with units managing the undersea cables to resolve the issues, as well as deploying other measures to optimize data transference.
