The LNG terminal is located at Cai Mep Industrial Park in Tan Phuoc ward, Phu My township, southern Ba Ria-Vung Tau province.
Construction on the US$286 million project began in October 2019 on a surface area of about 5 hectares.
It will supply LNG for domestic consumers, including Nhon Trach 3 and Nhon Trach 4 power plants and industrial buyers.
Addressing the inauguration ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang said that the project, invested by Petrovietnam Gas Joint Stock Corporation plays an important role in materializing the orientations of the Party and Government in national energy development strategy towards green, clean and sustainable growth.
The Deputy Prime Minister said Viet Nam targets to raise the total LNG-fired power output to 22,400MW, accounting for about 15 percent of the country's total power output by the end of this decade.
However, the country has only one LNG termina to date, thus the Deputy Prime Minister urged PetroVietnam to increase the capacity of the terminal to three million tons of LNG per year while accelerating other LNG-fired power projects./.
