The Solidarity and Friendship Year aims to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the bilateral diplomatic relations and 45 years of the Viet Nam -Laos Treaty of Amity and Cooperation.
This will be a good chance for both sides to educate the youth on the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive partnership between Vietnam and Laos.
Viet Nam and Laos set up diplomatic ties on September 5, 1962.
On December 2, 1975, the Lao People’s Democratic Republic was born, marking the victory of the Lao people as well as of the fighting alliance between Laos and Viet Nam.
Since 1975, the bilateral relations have entered a new chapter – the era of comprehensive cooperation between the two parties, states, and peoples.
On July 18, 1977, the two countries signed a Treaty of Amity and Cooperation and another Treaty on National Border Demarcation.
Despite complicated developments in the regional and global situations, the Viet Nam-Laos time-honoured friendship, special solidarity and all-around cooperation have developed extensively and effectively.
Cooperation mechanisms, especially at the high-ranking level, have been consolidated, with growth in political, defence, security and economic collaboration.
In the time to come, the Governments, ministries, sectors and localities of both sides will continue to coordinate closely to effectively implement the high-level agreements between the two countries, especially the agreement on bilateral cooperation in the 2021-2025 period and the Viet Nam-Laos strategic cooperation agreement for 2021-2030./.
