The agreement was reached during the pair's meeting on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on July 7.

The two leaders hailed the state visit of Vietnamese General Secretary To Lam to Indonesia last March and the elevation of bilateral ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership, describing it as a significant milestone in the countries' relationship.

They agreed to step up high-level exchanges and foster cooperation through all channels and levels, while committing to the effective implementation of bilateral cooperation mechanisms.

Pham urged the two countries to work together to formulate an action plan to implement the comprehensive strategic partnership for the period 2025–2030. He also emphasized the need to boost cooperation in key areas such as trade, investment, agriculture, and new sectors including the digital economy, green transition and energy.

Both sides reaffirmed their intention to open their markets more widely to each other's goods. Prime Minister Pham said he would direct Viet Nam's Ministry of Industry and Trade to work closely with Indonesian counterparts to facilitate market access and promote bilateral trade.

The leaders also reiterated their commitment to working with other ASEAN Member States to advance multilateralism, solidarity, and ASEAN centrality, uphold ASEAN's common stance on the East Sea and address regional and global issues of mutual concern./.
