Viet Nam expects Japan to play greater role in maintaining peaceful environment

In his speech at the National Diet of Japan on Wednesday, President Vo expressed his wish that the two countries will work together to contribute to building a sustainable and inclusive regional architecture in which ASEAN plays a central role, promoting the effectiveness of the ASEAN-led mechanisms, consolidating multilateralism, and upholding the United Nations Charter and international law while utilizing scentific and technological advances in favor of sustainable, green and inclusive development.

President Vo held that the two countries share the common responsibility to join the international community in advancing dialogue, preventing conflicts and wars, and promoting the resolution of disputes through peaceful measures in accordance with international law and the United Nations Charter.

Both sides need to further strengthen political trust, increase the exchange of delegations at all levels in order to create solid foundation for the bilateral ties across all fields, said Vo.

The President suggested the two countries should step up connectivity between the two economies, considering economic cooperation as the key pillar of the bilateral ties. He called on Japan to assist Viet Nam in realizing its modernization and industrialization cause.

Vo pledged that Viet Nam will double effort to maintain its position as an attractive investment destination for Japanese investors, contributing to diversifying supply and production chains.

Both sides should also enhance defense and security cooperation on the basis of the Joint Vision Statement on Viet Nam-Japan Defense Cooperation, with a focus on maritime security cooperation, information sharing, United Nations peacekeeping operations while expanding cooperation in addressing non-traditional security challenges, said President Vo.

He suggested the two countries foster local-to-local, education and training, cultural, tourism and labor cooperation, and people-to-people exchanges; create favorable conditions for their expats to better integrate in to the host societies, considering these as the important factors to enhance mutual understanding and trust between the two peoples.

The two countries should expand cooperation to new fronts. With regard to this, President Vo expected Japan to become a strategic investor and partner of Viet Nam in such domains like clean energy, renewable energy, and climate change, and to deploy concrete projects in line with the Asia Energy Transition Initiative (AETI) and the Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC).
