Viet Nam completes first COVID-19 vaccine dose for all adults

As of late January 12, around 163.5 million vaccine doses were administered. Up to 71.5 million people received the second jabs, reaching 93 percent while 13.6 million others got the booster shot, accounting for 11.5 percent.

51 out of 63 localities reported that more than 90 percent of local residents were fully vaccinated.

Meanwhile, 14 million vaccine doses were administered for adolescences under 18, 6 million of whom got two shots, making up 68 percent.

The nation has received 206 million vaccine doses so far, including 60 million Astra Zeneca vaccine doses, 88 million doses of Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, 5 million Abdala vaccine doses and 1.5 million doses of Sputnik V vaccine.

A total number of 103 million doses were purchased from the State budget while the rest were donated from the COVAX Facility and other resources.

On July 10, 2021, Viet Nam launched the national COVID-19 vaccination campaign with a goal to acquire 150 million doses for around 75 million people, or 70% of the country’s population.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh urged subordinate levels to administer second jabs to all adolescents aged between 12 and 17 in January 2022, and booster shots to people aged 18 and above in the first quarter of 2022.

Pham also required subordinate levels to actively make plan for vaccinating children from 5-11 years old against COVID-19 in line with recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO).
