Addressing the 8th Viet Nam-U.S. Business Summit in Ha Noi on Wednesday morning, Bui said Viet Nam and the U.S. have made tireless efforts to transform the relationship from confrontation to partnership, from suspicion to trust, from a painful past to a present of comprehensive cooperation and a future of mutual prosperity.

The bilateral ties can be summarized in five key phases: strategic trust, comprehensive cooperation, win-win development, responsible partnership, and together creating future.

It is strategic trust that has helped both countries to "shelve the past" and move forward to build the relationship that has become a model of international relations, according to Bui.

He said that the upgrade of the bilateral ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2023 stands as the most prominent testament to three-decades working together to build strategic trust.

The relationship between the two countries is not a "give-take", or "gain-lose" relationship, but a co-creation, co-development, and co-win relations. The two economies are supplementary.

Both sides have agreed that science, technology, and innovation is one of the key pillars of the bilateral ties. This is the foundation for the two sides to jointly create a future of green and sustainable development in the digital age.

Bui called on the American business community to actively promote high-level delegation exchanges between the two countries, including General Secretary To Lam's visit to the U.S. to shape long-term orientations for stable and sustainable development of the Viet Nam-U.S. relations.

He called on the U.S. enterprises to continue pushing for the U.S. Administration's full recognition of Viet Nam's market economy, and lifting of restrictions on high-tech exports with a view to consolidate strategic trust and boost economic-trade cooperation between the two nations.

American businesses were also urged to expand investments in Viet Nam – a safe, stable and highly promising investment destination, and to contribute to the process of formulating a reciprocal trade agreement that is fair and balanced between the two countries.

Bui expressed his belief that in the current volatile world, only trust can create cooperation, only cooperation can lead to prosperity, and only prosperity can create a sustainable future./.
