Viet Nam borrows over US$ 530 million from foreign partners

In July, the Vietnamese Government signed three loan agreements with the Japanese Government with a total value of US$ 434.45 million. The loans comprise JPY50 billion (US$ 363 million) for post-COVID socio-economic development and recovery and infrastructure development in Binh Duong and Lam Dong provinces.

With the three new loan contracts, Japan remains the biggest bilateral donor of Viet Nam with the total committed capital of JPY50 2,577 billion, equivalent to US$ 23 billion.

The Government's total debt repayment is about VND 210,421 billion, of which, direct debt repayment is about VND 193,979 billion (64.3 percent of the plan), loan repayment is about VND 16,442 billion (48.5 percent of the plan).

Under Decision No.458/QD-TTg on approving the country’s plan for borrowing and paying public debt for 2023 and the program on public debt management for the 2023-2025 period, the government will have loans worth a maximum US$81.43 billion, including loans for central budget balance of up to US$78.82 billion, and loan payment of US$2.56 billion in the 2023-2025 period.

The Government’s total debt payment for the period will be at most US$47.74 billion, which includes US$42.04 billion for direct debt payment and US$5.7 billion for payment of on-lending debt./.
