Viet Nam becomes second biggest source of foreign students in South Korea

The number of Vietnamese students in South Korea increased from 19 percent to 22.7 percent last year. However, the majority of them only enrolled in short-term non-degree courses. Among the 42,089 students in non-degree courses in all Korean universities, Vietnamese students made up the most with 11,025 people.

Established in 1992, the relationship between Viet Nam and South Korea has developed rapidly and both countries upgraded their ties to Strategic cooperative partnership in October 2009, opening up a new chapter in the relationship between the two countries, with many important cooperation achievements.

Besides education, labor cooperation is also a bright spot in bilateral ties. The number of Vietnamese workers registered to work in South Korea increased to more than 23,400, almost doubling the target reached by the two sides, according to the Center for Overseas Labor under the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs.

The center, in collaboration with the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs of cities and provinces, planned to select around 12,000 Vietnamese people to work in the Northeast Asian nation under the Employment Permit System (EPS) this year.

Figures from the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs of Viet Nam showed that up to now, Viet Nam has sent over 110,000 workers to South Korea under the EPS program./.
