Viet Nam, Australia mark 50th anniversary of Viet Nam-Australia ties

VGP - The Vietnamese State, Government and National Assembly leaders sent their letters of congratulations to their Australian counterparts on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Viet Nam-Australia diplomatic relations (February 26, 1973-2023).

Acting President Nguyen Thi Anh Xuan conveyed a congratulatory message to Governor-General of Australia David Hurley, while Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh sent congratulations to his Australian counterpart Anthony Albanese.

National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue also congratulated President of the Australian Senate Sue Lines and Speaker of the Australian House of Representatives Milton Dick on this special day.

On the occasion, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son sent a letter to his Australian counterpart Penny Wong.

Viet Nam and Australia set up their diplomatic relations in 1973. They upgraded their bilateral relations to a Comprehensive Partnership in 2009 and signed a Declaration on Enhancing the Comprehensive Partnership in 2015.

Viet Nam is now considered one of Australia's most important partners.

Last year, two-way trade turnover valued US$ 15.6 billion, an increase of 25.8 percent compared to 2021./.
