Addressing the sixth MLC Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Chongqing, China on June 8, Bui stressed the need of sharing information and experience in the COVID-19 fight and enhancing technology transfer of vaccine production practically and effectively.
He proposed creating favorable conditions for trans-border movement of commodities, particularly farm products and fresh fruits and timely informing businesses of requirements and standards for market access.
Meanwhile, Bui asked for speeding up sustainable management and use of water resources in the Mekong River through enhancing exchanges of hydrological data, consultancy on development of water resources policy, realization of joint projects on climate change, natural disasters and saltwater intrusion as well as promoting cooperation between MLC and the Mekong River Commission.
The Vietnamese FM called for strengthening coordination between the MLC and ASEAN and other regional and sub-regional cooperative mechanisms while encouraging the participation of localities in the MLC’s programs and activities.
At the meeting, the participants adopted three documents on promoting sustainable development, facilitating cooperation between localities and cooperation in traditional medicine.
Established in 2016, the MLC is a sub-regional cooperation mechanism covering six countries along the Mekong River, namely Cambodia, China, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, and Viet Nam.
