Plan adopted to implement ILO Convention 105 on Abolition of Forced Labor

VGP – Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam has signed Decision No. 2234/QD-TTg approving a plan on implementation of the International Labor Organization’s Convention 105 on Abolition of Forced Labor.

Under the plan, the Ministry of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs is responsible for coordinating with other relevant ministries and agencies to popularizing the content of Convention 105 and Viet Nam’s related regulations.

The ministry is tasked to review, supplement or issue new regulations in line with Convention 105, organize training on prevention and eradication of forced labor for laborers and employers.

The ministry is assigned to cooperate with other ministries and agencies to design guiding documents on the implementation of the Convention in accordance with Vietnamese conditions for employees, employers, enterprises, cooperatives, offices, and organizations.

On June 8, 2020, the National Assembly voted for the ratification of ILO Convention 105 on Abolition of Forced Labor.

Forced labor can be understood as work that is performed involuntarily and under the menace of any penalty. It refers to situations in which persons are coerced to work through the use of violence or intimidation, or by more subtle means such as manipulated debt, retention of identity papers or threats of denunciation to immigration authorities./.
