VASEP forecasts positive aquatic exports

Export turnovers of two key commodities – shrimps and pangasius - surged 8% and 2.4%, respectively. Overseas shipment of cuttlefish and octopus dropped by 6.2% and that of tuna was down by 5.5%. Meanwhile, export of sea fish increased sharply by 19.5%.

In 2016, almost all aquatic products were forecast to grow up thanks to stable supply and recovery demands in Viet Nam’s major import markets.

Tuna export was projected to expand 12% to US$507 million; cuttlefish, octopus up 10% to US$470 million; crab and sea fish up 13% to US$1.3 billion.

The  Viet Nam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) reported that the raw materials for aquatic processing and export remained advantageous as exploition output was on the rise. Fishing activities took place eventfully albeit favorable weather, stable prices, lower oil prices, and in season.

The Government’s preferential policies on building offshore fishing ships also helped improve the quality and value of products.

In January-April, aquatic exploitation output reached over 1.05 million tons, up 3% against the same period in 2015, of which seafood productivity amounted to 1.03 million tons, representing a year-on-year growth of 3.3%./.
