80km- Van Don-Mong Cai Highway connects Van Don Airport to districts of Van Don, Tien Yen, Dam Ha, Hai Ha and Mong Cai City.

The highway, invested with more than VND11,000 billion in form of Public Private Partnership, will be connected with Ha Long-Van Dong Highway and Ha Long-Hai Phong Highway.

After completion, the highway will shorten the travelling time from Van Don to Mong Cai from two hours to 0.8 hours, facilitating road transport from Lang Son to Mong Cai, Van Don, Ha Long as well as upholding the effectiveness of Van Don Airport.

The project is expected to come into operation in the next two years, making Quang Ninh Province become the locality with the longest highways in Viet Nam with nearly 200km, paving the way for connecting Viet Nam and ASEAN with China.

Breakthroughs in attracting more resources

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy PM Dung supposed that Quang Ninh Province has full potentials and favorable conditions to turn into a crucial connectivity pole in the region.

The province has advantages of trading with other nations in the region, becoming a transport gateway with a number of border gates, harbor systems, especially Mong Cai international border gate and Cai Lan international container terminal.

With 250 km of coastlines, more than 6,000 km2 of sea surface, more than 20,000 ha of straits and rich marine resources, the locality must enhance maritime economic development.

In 2018, a number of large transport projects were inaugurated such as Bach Dang Bridge, Ha Long-Hai Phong Highway, Ha Long-Van Don Highway, Van Don International Airport and Ha Long International Cruise Port.

The construction of Ha Long-Mong Cai Highway is meaningful to boost economic development in the province to effectively exploit its potentials and advantages, said Mr. Dung.

Otherwise, the highway will also create an important transport corridor for transporting commodities for production, services, exports and traveling demands of local people in the region and nationwide, thus improving the national competitiveness, accelerating integration and development and strengthening national defense and security for the Northeast, he added.
