US$1.73 bln poured in Northwest in 2014

VGP – The Northwest attracted US$1.73 billion in 106 Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) projects in 2014, according to the Foreign Investment Agency, under the Ministry of Planning and Investment.

The manufacturing and processing sector led in attracting the FDI with US$900.5 million in 68 projects, accounting for more than 78% of the total investment. It was followed by the mining and entertainment sectors with US$151.5 million and US$86 million, accounting for 27.5% and 5%, respectively.

As many as 18 nations and territories have poured investment in provinces in the Northwest. China ranked first with US$890 million in 40 projects, accounting for 51.4%. Japan and Australia took the second and third positions with US$147.8 million and US$136 million, respectively.  

Among six provinces in the Northwest, Lao Cai Province topped the list in attracting foreign investment with a registered capital of US$875 million in 35 projects, accounting for 50.5%.

The Northwest consists of six provinces of Dien Bien, Hoa Binh, Lai Chau, Son La, Lao Cai and Yen Bai.
