U.S. to provide US$1 million in humanitarian aid to support Viet Nam

VGP – The U.S. will provide US$1 million in humanitarian assistance to Viet Nam to help the Southeast Asian country overcome the devastating consequences of typhoon Yagi.

The funding will be used to provide shelter, clean and sanitary water, and food to disaster-hit residents and to enhance the capacity for communities nationwide in response to natural disasters and catastrophes.

The U.S. has provided US$7.7 million in emergency assistance over the last five years to support Viet Nam’s efforts in post-disaster rescontruction effort and capacity-building.

As of 5: p.m. on September 11, typhoon Yagi claimed at least 324 people dead and missing in Viet Nam, including 179 deaths.

Yagi, the strongest storm hitting Viet Nam over the past 70 years, caused widespread flooding and massive landslides in several northern localities over the last days./.
