U.S. National Security Adviser Robert O'Brien meets security, defense officials

Participants in the talks included Deputy Minister of Public Security Bui Van Nam and U.S. Ambassador to Viet Nam Daniel Kritenbrink.

Lam welcomed Robert O'Brien’s Viet Nam visit, expressing his belief that the visit would help further deepen the Comprehensive Partnership between the two countries in an increasingly substantial manner.

The bilateral ties have grown both in depth and width across fields thanks to effective operation of dialogue mechanisms and coordination at multi-lateral forums over the last 25 years, said Lam.

He affirmed that the Ministry of Public Security highly values the outcomes of bilateral defense-security cooperation, hoping that the two countries would continue fostering cooperation for the benefits of the two peoples and for peace, stability, cooperation and prosperity in the region and the world.

Both sides noted with pleasure at developments of the bilateral cooperation in security and law enforcement, contributing to further strengthening the Comprehensive Partnership in the time ahead.

The same day, U.S. National Security Adviser Robert O'Brien also met with Vietnamese Minister of National Defense Ngo Xuan Lich.

Speaking at the meeting, O'Brien affirmed that the U.S. attaches importance to the Comprehensive Partnership with and supports a strong, independent and prosperous Viet Nam.

Lich spoke highly of the significance of O'Brien’s visit which is taking place on the occasion of the 25^th anniversary of the Viet Nam-U.S. diplomatic relations as well as the outcomes of joint projects on post-war consequences settlement, including dioxin remediation at Bien Hoa airbase, provision of support for Vietnamese people with disabilities in the localities affected by Agent Orange (AO/dioxin), and settlement of bomb and mine consequences.

He also highly valued the joint efforts in the search for American soldiers missing in actions and appreciated the U.S. assistance for Viet Nam’s engagement in UN peacekeeping operations and improvement of capacity of Vietnamese coast guard force.

O’Brien said the U.S. will continue considering cooperation in handling war consequences a focus and foundation of the bilateral defense ties.

He expressed his thanks for Viet Nam’s support in the search for American servicemen missing in action, pledging to continue push ahead with joint projects and activities in this area./.
