UNCLOS-defined rights and interests must be respected

VGP – Viet Nam sincerely hopes that lawful and legitimate rights and interests of each ASEAN country as provided under the 1982 United Nation Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS 1982) are respected, said Foreign Ministry’s Spokesperson Le Thi Thu Hang.

Hang made the above statement on April 21 in response to reporters’ queries about reports on the recent complex developments in the waters of some ASEAN member states.

She said parties concerned have responsibilities to comply with international law, UNCLOS 1982 and demonstrate their commitments to the development of the friendly relations between countries as well as to peace, stability, cooperation in the East Sea, the region and the world.

As a country in the East Sea and member of ASEAN, Viet Nam keeps a close watch on the situation in the East Sea, the Spokesperson affirmed./.
