Typhoon Wipha disrupts flights across Viet Nam

VGP - As Typhoon Wipha is approaching Viet Nam’s northern coast, the national flag carrier Viet Nam Airlines has announced major adjustments to flight schedules on July 21 to ensure passenger and crew safety.

Viet Nam Airlines cancels domestic routes among HCMC, Hai Phong and Con Dao in response to Typhoon Wipha

Viet Nam Airlines has canceled several domestic routes, notably between Ho Chi Minh City and Hai Phong (VN1188, VN1171, VN7188, VN7189, VN7056, VN7057), as well as flights to Con Dao (VN1856 and VN1857).

Pacific Airlines rescheduled its Ho Chi Minh City–Hai Phong flights (BL6440 and BL6441) to ensure arrival and departure at Cat Bi Airport before 12:00 p.m. on July 21. Flights BL6520 and BL6521 on the same route have been canceled.

Looking ahead to July 22, all flights from Cat Bi Airport are scheduled to depart after 12:00 p.m.

The airline also warned that other domestic and international flights on July 21 and 22 may face delays or disruptions due to the storm's impacts.

Airports on high alert as storm advances

The Civil Aviation Authority of Viet Nam (CAAV) identified four airports expected to be directly affected by Typhoon Wipha namely Noi Bai, Van Don, Cat Bi, and Tho Xuan.

Additionally, airports in Dien Bien, Vinh, Dong Hoi, Phu Bai, Da Nang, Chu Lai, Phu Cat, and Pleiku have been advised to remain on alert for unexpected weather developments.

According to the Aviation Meteorological Center under the Viet Nam Air Traffic Management Corporation, Wipha is moving rapidly toward the Vietnamese coastline, sustaining wind speeds of level 11 with gusts reaching level 14.

Between 9:00 p.m. and midnight on July 21, the typhoon's eye is forecast to be approximately 250 kilometers from Noi Bai International Airport./.
