New Secretary of Ho Chi Minh City Municipal Party Committee Tran Luu Quang
Tran Luu Quang was promoted to the new role from his previous position as Chairman of the Central Policy and Strategy Commission.
He will replace his predecessor Nguyen Van Nen who has been assigned by the Politburo to serve as a permanent member of the Sub-committee for Documents of the 14th National Party Congress.
Tran, aged 57, is a native from the southern province of Tay Ninh province. He holds a master's degree in public management.
He has been a member of the Party Central Committee for the 11th term (alternate), 12th and 13th terms, and a deputy of the National Assembly for the 14th and 15th terms.
He spent most of his early career in Tay Ninh province, serving as Secretary of Trang Bang District Party Committee; Standing Vice Chairman of Tay Ninh provincial People's Committee; Secretary of Tay Ninh provincial Party Committee and Chairman of Tay Ninh provincial People's Committee.
From February 2019 to April 2021, he served as Standing Vice Secretary of Ho Chi Minh City Municipal Party Committee.
From April 2021 to January 2023, he was Secretary of Hai Phong Municipal Party Committee.
On January 5, 2023, he was elected as Deputy Prime Minister.
In August 2024, he was assigned by the Politburo to lead the Central Economic Commission, now the Central Policy and Strategy Commission.
