Tram Chim National Park becomes global Ramsar site

A ceremony to receive the Ramsar Site Certificate was held on Tuesday in Dong Thap Province by the local authorities.

Participants to the ceremony include representatives of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, World Wildlife Fund (WWF), International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), UN Development Program (UNDP) and UNESCO's Man and Biosphere (MAB) Program.

Located in Tam Nong district, the Tram Chim National Park covers an area of 7,313 hectares which is home to 130 pieces of plant, 150 species of fish, 34 types of reptile and amphibian and 231 types of water bird, of which 13 are listed as endangered.

It is a reduced model of Dong Thap Muoi, with a natural history of collective ecology of geomorphology, hydrography and underwater creatures, appears to be an attractive destination for both local and foreign visitors.

Vietnam has another three Ramsar sites, namely Xuan Thuy Natural Wetland Reserve in Nam Dinh, Bau Sau Wetlands and Seasonal Floodplains in Dong Nai and Ba Be National Park in Bac Kan.
