Top Vietnamese legislator holds phone talks with Cambodian counterpart

VGP - National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue suggested Viet Nam and Cambodia step up cooperation in borders control to prevent illegal immigration and human trafficking into each other country.

The top Vietnamese legislator made the suggestion during his phone talks with President of Cambodian National Assembly Samdech Heng Samrin on June 3.

Vuong expressed his wish to work closely with Presdient Heng Samrin and other Cambodian leaders to further promote and enhance the good neighborliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation and long-lasting sustainability between the two countries and legislatures.

He reiterated Viet Nam consistently attaches importance and gives high priority to consolidating and strengthening the traditional friendship with Cambodia, and supports the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) leadership in building a peaceful, independent and neutral Cambodia.

Viet Nam also supports Cambodia’s policy on regional and international integration and multilateralization and diversification of external relations, thus contributing to peace, stability and development in the region and the world, said Vuong.

He took the occasion to express thanks to the Cambodian National Assembly, Government and competent agencies for their assistance to Vietnamese community living and working in the neighboring country during the pandemic time, including its provision of COVID-19 vaccines to Vietnamese embassy staff.

Vuong also thanked Cambodia for its support for Viet Nam to successfully fulfill the roles as ASEAN Chair and AIPA Chair in 2020 and non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, pledging to back and share experience with Cambodia to successfully host international conferences in 2021.

He also voiced support for Cambodia to successfully organize the ward/communal-level elections in 2022 and legislature elections in 2023.

He suggested both sides actively exchange information and maintain close coordination and mutual support over regional and international issues and at multilateral forums and frameworks, including ASEAN-led ones.

In reply, President Heng Samrin congratulated Viet Nam on successful organization of the elections to the 15th National Assembly and the People’s Councils at all levels for the 2016-2020 period.

He spoke highly of the two Governments’ joint determination in ensuring security and combatting cross-border crime as well as their joint efforts in preventing the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The top Cambodian legislator expressed thanks for Viet Nam’s assistance to Cambodia’s COVID-19 fight through offering medical supplies and equipment./.
