NA Chairman Tran Thanh Man is delivering a speech at the sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament, Geneva, July 29, 2025
Acknowledging the unprecedented global upheavals, ranging from armed conflicts and geopolitical tensions to climate change, economic disparities, and humanitarian crises, the top Vietnamese legislator stressed that these complex challenges transcend national, racial, and religious boundaries and require collective global action.
He highlighted that parliamentary cooperation should go beyond the exchange of legislative practices and the adoption of resolutions. "It must reflect a true commitment to translating words into action, turning ideas into reality, and creating tangible opportunities for billions of people worldwide," he said.
"As representatives of the people's will and aspirations, it is our responsibility to ensure that policies and laws are rooted in the values of peace, justice, and equality," he added.
To advance global parliamentary cooperation, Tran proposed several key directions to enhancing Dialogue and Trust-Building, promoting justice and equality, championing environmental protection and sustainability.
He also underscored the importance of strengthening inter-parliamentary diplomacy, describing parliaments as bridges that connect peoples and promote shared solutions to global challenges.
As a committed member of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), he reaffirmed Viet Nam's strong support for multilateralism and international cooperation, emphasizing that lasting peace, justice, and prosperity can only be achieved when all nations—large or small—respect international law, engage on equal footing, and prioritize people's interests above all.
Concluding his remarks, Tran expressed his firm belief in the power of international solidarity, multilateralism, and the rule of law. "By placing the interests of the people at the center, we can overcome any challenge," he said. "Let this conference mark a meaningful turning point—toward deeper cooperation and stronger action—for a better world for generations to come."
The 2025 Conference aims at strengthening multilateral cooperation; promoting responsibility and democracy in international relations among parliaments and parliamentarians; supporting parliamentary diplomacy for peace and mutual understanding; amplifying the voice of citizens within the United Nations; and helping translate global commitments into national realities./.
