Alami expressed his confidence that the top Vietnamese legislator's visit would open up a new phase of cooperation between the two legislative bodies, contributing to the advancement of bilateral relations in priority areas such as agriculture, renewable energy, climate change, phosphate, electric vehicles, textiles, electronic components and tourism.
The host voiced his support for exploring the possibility of negotiations on a new trade agreement, upgrading of the cooperation framework, effectively implementing bilateral cooperation mechanisms such as the Intergovernmental Committee.
Tran, for his part, expected to continue enhancing mutual understanding and linakges between the two parliamentarians, thereby creating momentum to expand bilateral ties across various fields for the development and prosperity of both nations.
In the first five months of this year, trade between the two countries reached over US$320 million, surpassing the figure recorded for the entire year of 2024, reflecting the significant potential that both sides could work together to boost bilateral trade.
He called on both sides to consider negotiating and signing a new trade agreement and strengthen cooperation in strategic industries such as agricultural processing, fertilizer production, and renewable energy.
Both legislators pledged to strengthen political trust via delegation exchanges and step up multilateral cooperation, particularly within the framework of the United Nations (UN) and inter-regional collaboration.
They exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual concerns, underscoring the need to promote the resolution of disputes by peaceful means, without the use or threat of force, based on respect for international law and the UN Charter./.
