General Secretary and President To Lam welcomes Mozambican President Filipe Jacinto Nyusi at the Presidential Palace in Ha Noi, September 9, 2024

On behalf of the Party, State and people of Viet Nam, To warmly welcomed President Nyusi's first visit to Viet Nam, expressing his belief that the visit would create a new momentum for further accelerating and deepening the fine tradition of solidarity, friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

President Nyusi said he was deeply impressed with Viet Nam's robust development and its global prestige and position under the sound leadership of the Communist Party of Viet Nam.

In a cordial and open atmosphere, the two leaders briefed each other about recent developments in respective countries and charted major orientations and concrete measures to improve the effectiveness of bilateral cooperation in the future.

Both sides agreed to increase the exchange of delegations at all levels, across all channels to consolidate and enhance political trust and push bilateral cooperation.

The sides also agreed to continue close coordination and mutual support at regional and international forums, including fostering cooperation between the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the African Union (AU) and the Southern African Development Community (SADC).

The two leaders spoke highly of the progress in bilateral economic ties, remarkably the success of the Movitel – a joint venture between Viet Nam's Viettel Group and Mozambique' SPI company.

Movitel is now generating jobs for over 80,000 workers, including full-time employees, collaborators, sales points and agents, contributing positively to socio-economic development in Mozambique.

The pair agreed to continue facilitating market access for goods of each side's strength such as farm produce, garment, seafood, and coal while exploring the possibility to open cashew and aquaculture processing plants in Mozambique.

Highly valuing Viet Nam's achievements in agriculture sector, President Nyusi expects Viet Nam would assist Mozambique in agriculture development and deploy tri-partite agricultural projects in his country similar to those successfully implemented in other African nations.

The two sides agreed to further promote the role of bilateral cooperation mechanisms like the Inter-governmental Committee and political consultation while speeding up the signing of bilateral cooperation agreements in digital transformation, education and training and economic fronts.

Regarding the East Sea issue, the two leaders underscored the importance of ensuring security, safety and freedom of navigation and aviation in the East Sea and voiced support for peaceful settlement of disputes in accordance with international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.

After the summit meeting, General Secretary and President To Lam and President Filipe Jacinto Nyusi witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on energy and mineral cooperation between the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade and Mozambique's Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy and another Memorandum of Understanding between the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and Mozambique's Ministry of Sea, Inland Waters and Fisheries./.
