Three airports closed due to Typhoon Matmo

The Civil Aviation Authority of Viet Nam (CAAV) tasked the Noi Bai International Airport, Cat Bi International Airport and Van Don International Airport to remain staffed 24/7, conduct infrastructure inspections, implement storm prevention plans, and ensure the safety of flight operations.

Meanwhile, Tho Xuan, Vinh and Dien Bien airports are advised to be on high alert.

Typhoon Matmo made landfall in the Fangcheng area of China's Guangxi province, near the Viet Nam–China border on October 6, before weakening into a tropical depression as it moved deeper into the northern mountainous regions of Viet Nam.

Aside from strong winds, Matmo is expected to bring heavy to extremely heavy rains from 150–350mm from early October 6 through the night of October 7.

Due to the heavy rainfall, a flood event is likely to occur from October 6 to 9 in the Northern region and Thanh Hoa province. River water levels may rise 4–8 meters in the upper reaches and 2–5 meters in the lower reaches of major rivers./.
