Hoang made an impressive speed up in the last meters to finish third in the men's 400m freestyle in a time of 3min 49.16sec at the Hangzhou Sports Park Aquatics Center on September 29 in Hangzhou Province, China.
Kim Woomin of South Korea came first after 3:44.36 and Pan Zhanle of the hosts was second on 3:48.81.
It was Hoang's second bronze after his first on in the men's 800m freestyle on September 28.
"I am happy with another bronze. I have practiced hard in the last months and swam my best for the Asian Games," said Hoang.
"I have earned an A standard for the Olympics in the 800m freestyle event. I will compete in the Paris Games next year. I will work harder to earn a ticket in the 1,500m. I want to be the first Vietnamese to advance to the Olympics' top eight," he said.
The swimming team ended their Asian Games campaign with two bronzes. They will return home in the next few days.
Also on September 29, athletics team began their competitions' qualifications.
Hoang Thi Minh Hanh and Hoang Thi Anh Thuc took part in the women's 400m event and both qualified for the finals.
Later, talented Tran Thi Nhi Yen proved her ability in the first time at a continent-level event when she secured a slot in the finals of the women's 100m event.
After six days of competitions, Viet Nam bagged one gold, two silvers and 12 bronze medals. The 32nd SEA Games top team stand at No 15 in the medal tally./.
