Steering committee for national and key energy projects established

The committee will be led by Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha who will be assisted by Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien and Chairman of the Commission for the Management of State Capital at Enterprises Nguyen Hoang Anh as vice chairmen.

The committee is tasked to propose measures and solutions to address important interdisciplinary issues to speed up the progress of national and key energy programs and projects.

It will also assist the Prime Minister in directing, inspecting, monitoring and urging relevant ministries and localities to invest and carry out national and key energy programs and projects.

According to the National Energy Master Plan in the 2021-2030 period with a vision to 2050 released last July, total primary energy demand is expected to hit 107 million tons of oil equivalent by 2030 and 165-184 million tons by 2050.

Total primary energy supply is forecast to reach 155 million tons and 294-311 tons of oil equivalent by 2030 and 2050, respectively.

Regarding a socially just energy transition, renewable energy is set to account for 15–20 percent of total primary energy sources by 2030 and 80–85 percent by 2050.

The projected greenhouse gas emissions are about 399-449 million tons by 2030 and about 101 million tons by 2050.

The goal is to cut the emissions by 17-26 percent by 2030 and about 90 percent by 2050 compared to the normal development scenario.

By 2030, the plan aims to establish and develop several clean energy centers in the northern, central, and southern regions when favorable conditions are available.

It also intends to develop new energy production to meet domestic demand and for export. The capacity of green hydroelectricity production is estimated at about 100,000–200,000 tons per year by 2030 and about 10-20 million tons annually by 2050./.
