Statistics development strategy approved

VGP – PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng has ratified the Statistics Development Strategy for 2011-2020 with a vision towards 2030 to advance the sector in line with regional standards.

The strategy targets to develop statistics work towards modernity, quality and effectiveness.

The strategy also aims to synchronize, standardize and computerize all statistics processes and phases from data collection, storage, processing, analysis and dissemination in line with national practice and international standards.

In addition, the strategy sets a goal to raise national statistics potential point from 61 in 2010 to 70 by 2015; 80 by 2020 and 95 by 2030, in accordance with the criteria set by the World Bank.

Under the strategy, Việt Nam will build a national statistics database in the 2012-2020 period and set up a national statistics center under management of the General Statistics Office.

The Ministry of Planning and Investment was assigned to work with relevant agencies to rationalize statistics agencies at all levels./.
