State President promulgates amended Constitution

The signing ceremony drew the participation of Deputy PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Chairman of the Viet Nam Fatherland Front Nguyen Thien Nhan, Minister of Public Security Tran Dai Quang, Vice State President Nguyen Thi Doan, and Deputy PM Pham Binh Minh.

The amended constitution was approved at the 6th session of the 13th National Assembly and promulgated by the State President.

The constitution is a very important legal and political document, the basic and original law of the Sate in the period of comprehensive acceleration of national renovation and international integration.

The document institutionalizes the platform for national construction period of transition to socialism, inherits previous constitutions, and strongly reflects the sovereignty will of people and the strength of national unity.  

The amended constitution also affirmed the leadership of the Communist Party of Viet Nam which closely attaches to people, serves for people, is put under the supervision of people and responsible for its decision.

The newly-approved constitution also heightens human rights, fundamental rights and obligations of citizens; clearly stipulates regulations on politics, economics, culture, education, science-technology, environment, national defense, State apparatus, functions and authorities of State agencies, Constitution validity and amendment.

The amended constitution will take effect since January, 1, 2014./.
