Dignitaries at the welcome ceremony include Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son, Minister of Ethic and Religious Affairs Dao Ngoc Dung, Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Manh Cuong, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan, Deputy Minister of Finance Nguyen Duc Tam, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Hoang Trung, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Trinh Thi Thuy, Vietnamese Ambassador to India cum Bhutan Nguyen Thanh Hai.

After the welcome ceremony, State President Luong Cuong and King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck will hold summit meeting to chart major orientations to further advance the bilateral relations.

King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck is on a five-day State visit to Viet Nam at the invitation of State President Luong Cuong. This is the first State visit by a Bhutanese King to Viet Nam since the two countries established diplomatic relations in 2012.

The visit reflects Bhutan's high regard for its friendship and cooperation with Viet Nam, and for Viet Nam's role and position in the region.

Bhutan backs Viet Nam's bid to win a seat on Radio Regulations Board (RRB) of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) for the 2015-2018 term.

Bhutan also supports Viet Nam to become a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for the 2020–2021 term.

Meanwhile, Viet Nam has supported Bhutan's candidate for membership to the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child (CRC) for the 2025–2029 term./.
