State President congratulates new Malaysian King

VGP – State President Trương Tấn Sang on Thursday cabled a message of congratulations to Mr. Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah who was appointed as the Malaysia’s 14th King.

The 84-year-old Malaysian Head of State is the oldest constitutional monarch in the country's history.

The Sultan took his oath of office in a nationally televised ceremony attended by hundreds of dignitaries in Malaysia's new federal palace.

Besides being Malaysia's oldest king, Mr. Abdul Halim is the first to ascend the throne twice. He previously served as the fifth Malaysian King from 1970 to 1975.
