Special working group set up to help southern localities fight COVID-19

VGP – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has decided to establish a Government’s special working group on COVID-19 response based in Ho Chi Minh City.

The working group is headed by Deputy Minister of National Defense Vo Minh Luong.

Deputy Minister of Public Security Le Quoc Hung and Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Truong Son are the two deputy heads.

The working group, placed under direct guidance of Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam, is responsible for addressing urgent tasks and issues arising in the fight against COVID-19 in Ho Chi Minh and other southern localities that are placed under social distancing in accordance with the Government’s Directive No. 16.

Viet Nam confirmed 65,607 COVID-19 cases as of 6:00 am on July 21, including 61,196 domestic infections in 60 out of 63 cities and provinces nationwide since late April 27 when the fourth COVID-19 wave began.

Among the pandemic-hit localities, Ho Chi Minh City is the epicenter of the current wave with 38,837, accounting for more than 63 percent of the total cases recorded over the last three months.

At present, 19 southern localities, including Ho Chi Minh City, are imposing social distancing rules in line with the Government’s Directive No. 16 to tame spike in infections./.
