The above information was announced by CEO of Samsung Electronics Roh Tae-moon during his meeting with Prime Minister Le Minh Hung in Ha Noi on August 27.

Tae-moon said, Samsung's investment in Viet Nam has also continued to grow steadily, with the company's cumulative investment in the country reaching US$24 billion over the past 17 years since it began production in April 2009.

He voiced strong support for Viet Nam's new and important orientations in attracting foreign investment, stating that the corporation does not view Viet Nam merely as a manufacturing base, but as an important strategic partner in joint R&D and advancement of high technologies.

Accordingly, Samsung plans to continue expanding its R&D investment in high-tech fields, while making ongoing efforts to support the training of Viet Nam's high-tech workforce, he shared.

To enable Vietnamese enterprises to participate more extensively in Samsung's global supply chain, the Korean tech giant has been working with the Ministry of Industry and Trade to implement a wide range of cooperation programs.

The Samsung R&D Center in Ha Noi is also further expanding collaboration with major Vietnamese universities, investing more resources in strengthening technological capabilities and developing talent, said Tae-moon.

Samsung will make every effort to continue contributing to R&D activities and talent as well as strengthen and enhance the competitiveness of Vietnamese enterprises, he underlined.

The Prime Minister, for his part, expected Samsung to continue expanding its investment, while improving the quality and efficiency of its operations in Viet Nam.

He called on the group to transform the nation from merely a "manufacturing base" into a "hub for technology, research and development, and innovation."

Le urged Samsung to enhance the quality of its investment and increase technological and innovation content of its operations, not only by expanding factories and production capacity but also by stepping up investment in R&D and innovation in the country.

He suggested Samsung strengthen cooperation with research institutes and universities; train engineers, experts and high-quality human resources; and transfer appropriate technologies and management expertise.

The Government leader recommended Samsung strengthen linkages with Vietnamese enterprises and support Vietnamese companies in improving their technological and management capabilities, meeting the group's standards.

The Prime Minister also called for a higher proportion of locally sourced products and services, making it easier for Vietnamese enterprises with sufficient capabilities to participate in Samsung's production and supply chains in Viet Nam, South Korea and international markets./.
