The Deputy PM made the statement during a ceremony held in Ha Noi on July 30 to mark the 60th founding anniversary of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA) and the traditional day of the religion management sector (August 2, 1945-2015).
He spoke highly of the sector’s achievements and urged it to continue fulfilling entrusted tasks outstandingly.
Sector officials are required to accompany and understand the needs of religious followers, and facilitate religions' development in accordance with law and their contributions to consolidating the great national unity bloc, the official said.
He expressed his hope that religious dignitaries and followers will continue promoting sound values of their religions and national culture for a happier and more prosperous country.
Deputy PM Dam stressed that the national construction and defence are of all Vietnamese, both in and outside the country, regardless their religions.
Over the past six decades, the sector has contributed to strengthening and promoting the great national unity bloc, maintaining national defence and security, as well as boosting socio-economic development.
Religious dignitaries have been role models in implementing policies and laws of the Party and State, participating in patriotic emulation movements, promoting sound traditional cultural values of the nation, building a civilized lifestyle and strengthening the great national unity bloc.
External affairs related to religions have been boosted, helping the international community understand religious policies and realities in Viet Nam, contributing to developing cooperation between Viet Nam and other countries, as well as elevating the country’s status in the international arena.
So far, 38 religious organizations have been recognized and they have operated stably in line with law.
