The Red Spring (Xuan Hong) Festival is one of the largest annual blood donation events in Viet Nam.

First launched by the National Institute of Haematology and Blood Transfusion (NIHBT) and the Ha Noi Youth Association for Blood Donation in 2008, and conducted nationwide since 2010, the event targets to help address the shortage of blood for treatment during the Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday.

Over the past 15 years, about 100,000 units of blood have been collected, official data shows.

In 2022, the National steering committee for blood donation estimated that Viet Nam is expected to mobilize 1.5 percent of the population to donate 1.5 million blood units this year. However, widespread impacts and complicated developments of the COVID-19 pandemic seriously affected the work in recent weeks..

The volume of blood units per day remains far behind the average amount needed for treatment, especially during the Tet holiday.

People with good health conditions are encouraged to participate in blood donation (especially blood groups O and A)./.
