Program approved to better teaching quality of subjects taught in ethnic languages

VGP – Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam has signed decision approving a program on improving the teaching quality of subjects taught in languages of ethnic minority groups.

Under the program, the Government targets to complete compliation of textbooks and teaching documents for primary education in eight languagues namely Bahnar, Cham, E de, Khmer, Jrai, Mnong, Mong, and Thai by 2025.

The Government will step up training for education managers and teachers that teach ethnic languages, increase investment in improving educational facilities, and strengthen IT application in teaching ethnic languages.

As of April 1, 2019, Viet Nam's population was 96.2 million people in which 14.1 million people belonging to 53 ethnic minority groups, accounting for 14.7 per cent.

Six groups have a population of more than one million people including Tay, Thai, Muong, Mong , Khmer and Nung. Meanwhile, five others have less than 1,000 people each, including O Du, Brau, Ro Mam, Pu Peo and Sila.

There are about 48,100 schools built in ethnic minority-dominated areas and about 525,000 teachers are working at these schools, with 134,900 of them being ethnic minority people./.
