Indonesia's leadership at the 43rd ASEAN Summit contains four main spirits, Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi told reporters on Monday.
Retno said the first spirit is the importance to outline a long-term vision of the region and this is necessary and crucial because it will ensure sustainability and serve as the guideline for the future of ASEAN.
"The second spirit is to strengthen ASEAN's resilience in facing the challenges of our time," said Retno.
While the third is to promote ASEAN as the center of economic growth. Retno also emphasized that Indonesia would highlight strengthening food security in the region as one of its important elements.
"This is in line with the theme of ASEAN in Indonesia's chairmanship, namely 'ASEAN Matters: Epicentrum of Growth'," she said.
And the last spirit is to realize the safe and peaceful Indo-Pacific region. To achieve this, Indonesia will lead member countries to promote the implementation of the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP) to ASEAN partner countries at the upcoming Summit.
Retno emphasized, during Indonesia's leadership at this Summit, her party also initiated the ASEAN Indo-Pacific Forum Initiative which will be held in parallel with the 43rd ASEAN Summit./.
